Chewbacca’s Sum is Greater Than Solo Parts
On the afternoon of September 12, 2021 I was involved in a motorcycle accident that should have ended my life.
Instead, the accident was just the beginning of a two year nightmare that led to a narcotics addiction.
After I left rehab in June of 2023, I bought Chewey for my girlfriend and her kids. Their current dog was nearing the end of her life, and we thought at the time that Chewey would help ease the pain of the inevitable loss.
What I couldn’t predict at the time was just how much pain Chewey would relieve within me.
German and Austrian psychologists in the early 20th century coined the phrase “Gestaltism” which is summarized as “the whole is greater than the sum of its individual pieces”.
This blog started as my attempt to synthesize the many individual lessons I’ve learned through the eyes and actions of, and experiences with, my wise Tibetan roommate, and in doing so discover the secret to becoming whole.
As I now move on from the place and career I’ve called home for the last 20 years, and in the process leave behind my beloved Chewey in the amazing care of his Uncle and Aunt, this blog now transforms into a space where I write to my furry best friend from the road of life—both figuratively and literally.
I hope you enjoy something you read.
